The partnership was officially confirmed by MCACC officials on March 15, 2024. As part of the event, MCACC will offer reduced or waived adoption fees for cats, dogs, and other small animals. The initiative is part of BISSELL Pet Foundation’s broader campaign, which has successfully helped place over 100,000 pets into new homes nationwide since its inception.
Local shelter staff have reported that the event is expected to include hundreds of animals available for adoption. The event is designed to encourage community members to consider adopting pets that might otherwise remain in shelters for extended periods. MCACC’s participation aligns with ongoing efforts to address shelter overcrowding and improve animal welfare standards.
Impact of the Adoption Event on Local Shelter Population
This collaboration matters because it directly addresses the issue of shelter overcrowding, which can impact animal health and welfare. By increasing adoption rates, MCACC aims to reduce the number of animals in its care, improve living conditions, and foster healthier, happier pets for new families. Additionally, the event raises awareness about responsible pet ownership and community involvement in animal welfare.
For the community, the event provides an opportunity to adopt pets at a lower cost, potentially saving lives and reducing the financial burden on shelters. It also highlights the importance of community support for local animal welfare initiatives.

Background on BISSELL’s Empty the Shelters® Campaign
The BISSELL Pet Foundation launched the Empty the Shelters® campaign in 2016, aiming to increase pet adoptions across the United States. The foundation partners with hundreds of shelters annually, offering reduced or waived adoption fees to encourage more community members to adopt pets. The campaign has become one of the largest nationwide efforts to combat shelter overcrowding and promote animal welfare.
In recent years, interest in the campaign has surged, with coverage and search interest spiking in early 2024, possibly driven by increased awareness and community engagement. However, the specific reasons for this renewed interest, including any recent promotional efforts or regional campaigns, remain unconfirmed.
